As Former Teen Heartthrob Turned Comedy Heavyweight Jason Bateman Turns 46, Snakkle Celebrates by Looking Back

Bateman costarred with Ricky Schroder in this sitcom about a young boy who moves in with the father he’d never known. Bateman was so good in his role as bad boy Derek Taylor that he landed his first starring series role in It’s Your Move.

Bateman shone in this comedy that followed a family with a supermom at the helm and their struggle with her death. Bateman played the eldest brother, David Hogan, who was just as crazy about girls as they were about him. This role catapulted Bateman into teen-heartthrob status and launched his movie career.

Bateman costarred alongside Scott Bakula, Hector Elizondo, and Sinbad in this 1991 football comedy about a bunch of misfits who come together to create a new team of Fighting Armadillos when the previous players and coaches are removed due to a scandal.

Although he had appeared consistently in television and film, Bateman came back into the public eye with his role in this successful comedy about three friends (Christina Applegate, Cameron Diaz, and Selma Blair) trying to find love in San Francisco. Bateman was fantastic as Michael Bluth, the “straight man” in a family of egocentric, entitled oddballs. Although critically praised, the show wasn’t a commercial success and was canceled. It’s gained a devoted following since its cancellation, and an additional season will air through Netflix in 2013. There is going to be an Arrested Development movie as well! We can’t wait to see what’s happened with Michael, George-Michael, Gob, Lindsay, Buster, and the rest of the family.

As Mark Loring, Bateman deviated from his normal comedic role and brought vulnerability, humor, and depth to his portrayal of a conflicted adoptive father alongside Jennifer Garner and Ellen Page.

This bittersweet dramatic comedy focused on the humanity (or lack thereof) of downsizing in a bad economy. Bateman played Craig Gregory, a boss who is willing to make a bad situation even worse by embracing firings over the computer.

Bateman joins Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day in this uproarious comedy about three friends who plot to murder the bosses who are ruining their happiness. Look for great performances by Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, and Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey as well. Although not the box office success Horrible Bosses was, this delightful comedy about two friends who switch bodies after being struck by lightning featured great performances by Bateman, Leslie Mann, Olivia Wilde, and Ryan Reynolds.

Bateman played Sandy Patterson, a straight laced yuppie, who searches for the woman (Melissa McCarthy) who has stolen his identity. Naturally, hijinks ensue.

Bateman reprised his role as Michael Bluth, who yet again, had to try to save the family, in the Netflix Season 4 of Arrested Development.

Bateman reprises his role as Nick who starts up a business with friends Dale and Kurt. Things don't go quite right because of an investor, so the gang returns to their misguided schemes and plot to kidnap him.
