Before They Were Stars: Growing up in a musical family, Bruno’s style was heavily influenced by early listening to Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley. Appropriately, a very young Bruno donned a jumpsuit in 1992’s Honeymoon in Vegas for a cameo as “Little Elvis.” As a child, Bruno and his family band used to play for tourists in Hawaiian hotels. Mars initially signed with Motown Records in 2004, but was unsuccessful there, apart from his connection with Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine, with whom he formed producing team The Smeezingtons.
Where Are They Now: After co-writing songs for artists like Adam Levine, Brandy, and B.o.B, Mars launched a wildly successful solo career with the 2010 single, “Just the Way You Are.” His debut album, Doo-Wops and Hooligans, became a fast hit all over the world. Mars won a Grammy in 2010, and continues to produce and write.
Snakkle Snippet: Believe it or not, Bruno Mars co-wrote Cee Lo Green’s monster hit, “F— You!”
