Here is a photo of 21-year-old Alanis Morissette in 1995, the year Jagged Little Pill was released. Although it wasn't Ms. Morissette's first album, it was the one that made her an international superstar, selling tens of millions of units worldwide. In case you've forgotten how huge that record was, we're here to remind you, starting with the video for "You Oughta Know" which has lyrics that we probably shouldn't repeat on a family website. Something about whether or not a new girlfriend would do a certain thing in a movie theater.

Alanis Morissette—Today

Alanis turned 40 on June 1, 2014, and we honestly don't see much difference between her then and now photos. Well, OK, the hair — 1995 Alanis rocked the wet look, today she has those two braids mixed in with au natural brown locks. She also looks happier in the 2012 pic, sporting a sublime smile. Ms. Morissette has mellowed a bit over the years as she continues to make music, do some acting, and show her humorous side with this brilliant cover of The Black Eyed Peas' hit "My Humps". Fun fact: original humpster Fergie liked the cover so much that she sent Alanis a "cake in the shape of a derriere," according to People.com.

Belinda Carlisle in 1986

By the time this photo was taken in 1986, Belinda Carlisle and her band The Go-Go's already had a major hit on their hands with "We Got The Beat". (Music nerd alert: here is the original much punkier demo of the song from the late '70s.) And most of America had fallen in love with the beautiful Californian Belinda Jo Carlisle.

Now 56, Belinda is still rocking, as you can see in this performance of "We Got The Beat" on The Today Show in 2010. Guess what? Everyone who loved Belinda in 1980 more than likely still loves her today. We'll take a "Vacation" with her any time she wants. (See what we did there? So clever.)

Brandy in 1998

Like Madonna, Cher, and other superstar singers, Brandy Norwood uses only her first name. Going the mono-moniker route would appear to have been a wise choice for the young Ms. Norwood. Brandy's self-titled debut album went quadruple platinum, and her acting talent/good looks got her a TV series of her own, Moesha. The show's intro— Moesha, starring Brandy"—pretty much tells you all you need to know about this gorgeous young lady and her stellar career.

Brandy—Today

Now 35, Brandy is one of the younger entries on our list. She's still as gorgeous as ever, and has kept active with acting roles and new albums, all while starting a family. Maybe there's something to this "only one name" thing. Although without the brains, talent and beauty, or at least some combination of the three, we don't think things would work out quite as well for us as they did for Brandy.

Debbie Gibson in 1988

Debbie Gibson's music and style were very '80s back in the day. Which makes sense, since in this case "back in the day" means, you know, the '80s. Gibson became the youngest artist ever to write, produce and perform her own hit songs, which she had a lot of. And she did it all while wearing a great deal of denim, really big earrings, and a hair scrunchy.

Debbie Gibson—Today

A quick perusal of the comments found on the thousands of YouTube videos featuring Ms. Gibson shows that we're not the only ones who think she has gotten better looking with age. Let's be honest—this teen pop idol grew up to be a beautiful woman, plus all that dancing has kept her in great shape. Debbie—who briefly tried to get people to call her "Deborah" then wisely decided Debbie was working just fine—is truly fabulous at 44.

Debbie Harry. Blondie. So. Hot. Debbie's super sex appeal is showcased in this video for Blondie's hit song "Call Me". If you've never seen said video, it features a scantily-clad Debbie Harry frolicking in the surf. She does a cartwheel. Takes off a layer of clothing. (Not all of it. Just a bit.) Good times. Fun fact: Ms. Harry worked as a Playboy bunny before becoming a rock and roll frontwoman. We count ourselves amongst the many millions of fans who are glad that she made the move into music.

Debbie Harry—Today

Ready for this? Sitting down? Debbie Harry is 69. That's right. She looks great, and like most of the lovely ladies on our list is still actively performing music. Debbie did record some songs without Blondie, including the 1986 hit "French Kissin' In The USA." Another fun fact—that song was written by Chuck Lorre, who went on to mega-sitcom success with The Big Bang Theory and Two And A Half Men.

Gwen Stefani with No Doubt in the 1990s

Gwen Stefani started out doing backing vocals for her brother's band No Doubt in the '80s. Through a long and winding series of events, Gwen eventually took over as lead singer, and the rest is history. Rock and roll stardom isn't always that complicated. Sex appeal, vocal chops, stage presence—Gwen Stefani had the whole package. It took the world at large a little while to figure it out. No Doubt's 1995 album Tragic Kingdom, specifically the singles "Just a Girl" and "Don't Speak", put the band, and Stefani, to the top of the charts. And that's where she stayed.

Ms. Stefani just turned 45. She is as stunning now as she was then. (Seriously, who has abs like that?) No Doubt never really broke up, but Gwen branched out into a solo career, clothing lines, and made a business out of being a super-sexy super-star. Despite all this success, she's hard for even hardcore haters to hate. Beauty, talent, brains. For Gwen Stefani, life is good.

Now 44, Ms. Carey served as a judge on American Idol. She also is a mom and released a new album. All while looking as good now as she did in 1991. Mariah was miffed that Nicki Minaj shared her stage on the Fox reality show. To this we offer the following unsolicited advice. Ms. Carey: carry on doing your thing and don't worry about Nicki or anyone else. What you've been doing so far seems to be working out pretty darn well.

Martika in 1989

Actress and singer Martika was born Marta Marrero. She started out as a child actress and later turned to music, releasing a self-titled debut album in the late '80s. Her first hit was "Toy Soldiers." The video wisely showed off her sultry vocals, as well as those lovely lips and hair that hung in front of either the left or right side of her face, depending on... well, something. We're not sure but the hair definitely moves. No matter what side the hair was on, her face always looked just fine.

Martika—Today

Martika is now 45, and looks much the same as she did at the end of '80s. Her music career got a boost when Eminem sampled "Toy Soldiers" in his 2004 track "Like Toy Soldiers." (Which is why Martika's song sounded familiar to you even if you hadn't heard it before.) Our research tells us that Martika appears to be possessed of a restless creativity to go along with her beauty, with projects involving acting, singing, and that Internet thing all the kids are into these days. Shirley Manson with Her Band Garbage in 1998

Shirley Manson told the world in song that she was only happy when it rains, which was perfectly OK with her fans, particularly when she sang it while wearing that outfit in the video. The Scottish-born Ms. Manson has real rock and roll swagger to go with her sex appeal—when she stares at the camera, you feel like she's staring at you. And you should be so lucky to have that happen.

Ms. Manson, turned 48 on August 26, is still singing with Garbage. Like so many of the ladies on our list, she has branched out into acting, playing a deadly shape-shifting T-1001 on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Here is Manson as the liquid metal Terminator called Catherine Weaver killing a building full of puny humans. The clip starts dull but stick with it, it gets increasingly awesome. The Spice Girls in 1997

So. The Spice Girls. Although mocked by many, the Girls proved to have more staying power than many corporate created girl groups. This is due in no small part to the fact that each Spice was and is special in her own way. Scary, Sporty, Posh — take your pick. Odds are you'll find at least one gal to fall for. The catchy tunes and the retro-space-age-James-Bond-or-whatever video for "Say You'll Be There" helped the Spice Girls rocket to worldwide fame and fortune.

So. The Spice Girls. Dang. Were they cryogenically frozen or something? All five of them looked and sounded as fab as ever (we're trying to sound British here, is it working?) when they performed at the closing ceremonies of the 2012 Olympic Games. Apparently the show was in 3D, which we can't see because we don't have the right kind of TV, but we bet Spice was twice as nice in the third dimension. (We rhymed! Go us!)

Telling you, gentle reader, that your humble scribe had a big crush on Susanna Hoffs since she was walking like an Egyptian with The Bangles, would be like telling you that the floor is down and the ceiling is up. Because every guy we knew had a crush on her. As did most of the guys we didn't know. Whatever Ms. Hoffs wanted to tell us in her bedroom voice, we were listening. And also looking.

Turns out that an eternal flame does in fact burn for Susanna Hoffs, because the lady, she doth remain truly beautiful. A confession: this article took longer to write than some because of Yahoo!'s excellent video search. Click this link for "Susanna Hoffs". Now try not to spend the next several hours watching those videos. We did it. But it was not easy. We did allow ourselves a few clips, including this amazing find — Susanna Hoffs singing the Bad Company classic "Feel Like Making Love" from 1991. Ms. Hoffs is currently 55 years young, has done some movies (Austin Powers), and still performs with The Bangles. Here they are on GMA .

Tiffany was the Queen of the Mall in 1987, when she acid-washed her way to the top of the charts with a cover version of the classic Tommy James and The Shondells tune "I Think We're Alone Now." (Fun fact: the original was released in 1967, exactly twenty years before Tiffany, or as we just now decided to call it, "B.T.") By the way, we're not being cheeky about the mall thing. Tiffany really did achieve fame and fortune via a tour of America's shopping sanctuaries called "The Beautiful You: Celebrating The Good Life Shopping Mall Tour '87". Don't laugh, it worked.

Her mall days may be behind her, but Tiffany is still singing, dancing, and yes, acting. (We're noticing a trend here.) The 43-year-old five foot five inch former teen pop idol had a key role in the monster movie Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, co-starring Debbie Gibson. No, we're not kidding. The two ladies even have a girl fight. Really. It's in the trailer. Say what you want, but there are worse ways to make a living.
