Before They Were Stars—Snakkle Celebrates American Reunion by Catching Up with the Cast (and Their Past)

This one time, in high school, Alyson Hannigan looked the fresh-faced senior at North Hollywood High School in 1992, well before playing high schooler Willow in the iconic Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A veteran child actress, Hannigan had also appeared on shows like Picket Fences (1992), Roseanne (1988), and Touched by an Angel (1994) before landing Buffy in 1997.

Hannigan has appeared as the sweet-but-raunchy band dork Michelle Flaherty in all four American Pie movies. Now firmly established in her success as Lily Aldrin on CBS’s How I Met Your Mother, Hannigan is married to actor Alexis Denisof and is currently expecting their second child. She is excited to return as Michelle in American Reunion. As she told Entertainment Weekly in 2011, “The great thing about this franchise is that, of course, there’s the raunchy humor, but there’s also a lot of heart to it. And this fourth movie does not miss the boat on that at all.”

Klein has a discovery story worthy of the best 1940s starlet found at the soda shop. The high school football star was appearing in school plays when director Alexander Payne plucked him out of Omaha, Nebraska, to star in 1999’s Election. Klein went on to star as sensitive lacrosse player Chris “Oz” Ostreicher in two of the three American Pie sequels: American Pie 2 and now American Reunion. Klein, who famously dated Katie Holmes pre-Tom Cruise, was arrested twice for drunk driving in 2005 and 2010. Did this lead to Klein missing out on the third follow-up, American Wedding? As he told the Huffington Post, “I sure wish that they had invited me to play Oz at the wedding. Unfortunately, that was a creative decision made way above my pay grade, my man.” Klein, who is now 19 months sober, will next appear in the film Sam.

Levy, a Canadian funnyman and the son of an automobile worker, attended Westdale Secondary and later McMaster University, both in Hamilton, Ontario. Here we see Levy in 1963 during his senior year at Westdale Secondary.

Levy was in numerous films before agreeing to star as Jim’s dad in American Pie. He’s also a frequent player and cowriter in Christopher Guest’s ensemble films, including A Mighty Wind (2003). Levy originally had major doubts about appearing in the American Pie franchise, largely due to their raunchy content. After the directors agreed to some character changes, he was in. As it turns out, American Pie was the biggest movie of his career. “I thought I was doing quite well as a comedic character actor,” he recently told The Daily Telegraph. “But American Pie just opened me up to an audience I never would have attracted: the under-25 crowd.”

Biggs is a born-and-raised Jersey boy, hailing from Hasbrouck Heights in Bergen County. A successful tennis player and wrestler, Biggs made his TV debut as a child actor and first appeared in 1992’s Drexell’s Class with Dabney Coleman. Here we see him as a senior at Hasbrouck Heights High School.

Biggs got his big break when he appeared in American Pie. He played Jim Levenstein, the virginal high schooler who wanted to know what third base felt like. For the rest of us, this meant that we were never able to look at apple pie the same way. For Levy, this meant that he would go on to appear in a string of film and TV spots, including all three sequels to American Pie. We’re set to see a whole new side of Biggs in American Reunion. Reportedly, he insisted on full-frontal nudity for the film.

Suvari was discovered by a modeling agent when she was a child in Charleston, South Carolina. She moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting and graduated from Providence High School in Burbank in 1997. Here we see her senior photo, in all its arched-brow glory.

Suvari starred as good girl Heather in the American Pie franchise, but it was her break as the high school vixen Angela in Alan Ball’s American Beauty (1999) which also helped shoot her to fame. Still, she’s excited to be returning as Heather in American Reunion. As she told The Hollywood Reporter, “I’m really so blessed to be a part of this series just to begin with. And then to come back and work on another one with this amazing group of people, we really are like a family in a sense.” She’ll next appear in the romantic comedy The Knot.

Seann William Scott was the youngest of seven children, raised in Cottage Grove, Minnesota. He was working at Home Depot when he auditioned for the role of Steve Stifler in American Pie. Fearing typecasting as the “wild guy,” he then went on to different roles, such as a mobster son in The Rundown (2003) and John Farley in Mr. Woodcock (2007). Here we see Scott his senior year at Park High School in Cottage Grove.

Scott may have played a crazy high schooler in American Pie, but that doesn’t mean he’s wacky in real life. He recently spoke of filming American Reunion, naming Jason Biggs as the biggest prankster on set. As he told Glamour U.K. via Yahoo, “[Jason Biggs] had been hitting us in the balls during filming—it’s just a strange thing that he does.” Scott is next slated to appear as Crash in Ice Age: Continental Drift. He recently became engaged to Victoria's Secret model Lindsay Frimodt.

Tara Reid was another child actor, appearing in dozens of television commercials. She moved to Los Angeles in 1997 and landed her first big role as Bunny Lebowski in The Big Lebowski (1998). Success in American Pie soon followed. Here we see Tara her first year of high school at the Professional Children’s School in New York City.

Reid may have played virginal Vicky in American Pie, but she quickly became known for her tabloid antics in the time since. She went on to appear in films like Dr. T and the Women (2000) and Josie and the Pussycats (2001). She hasn’t had a major film release since 2005, instead doing pictorials for Playboy and appearing in Celebrity Big Brother U.K. in 2011. Maybe Reid’s planning a comeback with American Reunion?

Nicholas got his first break at age 7, when he appeared as a young Tony Micelli (Tony Danza's character) in a Who’s the Boss? flashback sequence. He went on to do several TV and film roles, including Married with Children (1989) and the 1993 film Rookie of the Year. Then came his breakout hit as Kevin in American Pie. Here we see him in eighth grade at the Laurel Hill School in North Hollywood, California.

After American Pie, Nicholas went on to appear in films such as The Rules of Attraction (2002) and Stealing Sinatra (2003). Nicholas, who is also a musician, has worked steadily since American Pie and was the last original cast member to agree to appear in American Reunion. He will next be seen as Abbie Hoffman in The Chicago 8.
