Levy was in numerous films before agreeing to star as Jim’s dad in
American Pie. He’s also a frequent player and cowriter in Christopher Guest’s ensemble films, including
A Mighty Wind (2003). Levy originally had major doubts about appearing in the
American Pie franchise, largely due to their raunchy content. After the directors agreed to some character changes, he was in. As it turns out,
American Pie was the biggest movie of his career. “I thought I was doing quite well as a comedic character actor,” he recently told
The Daily Telegraph. “But
American Pie just opened me up to an audience I never would have attracted: the under-25 crowd.”
