Dennis Quaid, Senior Year at Bellaire High School, Houston, Texas (1972)

Then: A Texas native who studied dance and Mandarin in high school, Dennis Quaid followed in his older brother Randy’s footsteps by moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting. With his sexy grin leading the way, Quaid eventually hit it big in Hollywood and has since managed both the career and personal ups and downs a lot better than Randy.

Julianne Hough, Senior Year at Alta High School, Sandy, Utah (2006)

Then: One of five children in a dancing family, Julianne Hough became a competitive Latin dancer at age 9. She lived and trained in England with her brother Derek for five years. Hough’s mainstream popularity grew when she won Dancing with the Stars with Apolo Ohno.

Now: In 2008, Hough left Dancing with the Stars for her country music singing career. In 2010, she landed her first prominent film role in Burlesque and was then cast as Rev. Moore’s rebellious daughter in the Footloose remake.

Andie MacDowell, Senior Year at Gaffney High School, Gaffney, South Carolina (1976)

Then: An industrious South Carolina girl, Andie MacDowell worked in high school and college to save money to start her modeling career in New York. She landed a contract with Elite Model Management and was a cover girl in the '80s. Her first film role was as Jane in Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes; however, her thick Southern accent was completely dubbed over by Glenn Close.

Now: A successful model, actress, spokeswoman, and entrepreneur, Andie MacDowell now plays a lot of mom roles, including the patient wife of Rev. Moore in the new Footloose.

Then: Georgia-born Ray McKinnon is a popular character actor who often plays Southerners in supporting roles in projects like Sommersby, Deadwood, and O Brother, Where Art Thou? Also a writer and director, McKinnon won the Academy Award for Live Action Short Film in 2001.

Then: Minnesotan Patrick John Flueger started acting professionally when he was in high school. Since then, he’s guest-starred on many TV shows and had a regular role in the USA series The 4400.

Then: An up-and-coming actor from Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Miles Teller actually landed his first role in a play as left-footed Willard in his high school’s musical production of Footloose. Teller’s biggest role to date was in Rabbit Hole, with Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart.
