Kelly Taylor started out as blond and bubbly, your stereotypical California girl, but as the series went on, we saw more of her serious and sensitive side. She wasn’t just the girl who flitted between flirtation with Brandon and Dylan—and Steve and Jake and Matt. She stood up to her drug-addled mother, her own substance abuse issues, a girl who was planning to accuse her good friend of sexual assault, and a cult, but we’ll always remember her most fondly for her worries over being “too pretty.” Ah, teenage angst!

Garth made headlines for her split with longtime hubby Peter Facinelli, she has also reteamed with her post-90210 family (ABC Family, which aired her sister sitcom What I Like About You) and Tori Spelling for a new project entitled Mystery Girls, in which her and Spelling play TV detectives who turn into IRL sleuths. She currently starred in a docu-series for CMT and will next do one for HGTV.

Poor David Silver. All of the things he wanted seemed to be just out of reach to him during his early high school days. First there was being a part of the cool crowd, then his desire to be a musician and DJ, and, of course, what every teenage boy wants: sex. After screwing up time and again (cheating on Donna and almost getting arrested for drug possession), David gradually grew up. He may never have gotten the record contract, but he did get laid. Most would call that a successful high school career.

Brian Austin Green toughened his on-screen image since his David Silver days, first trying his hand as a rapper, but then more seriously working on genre shows like Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Smallville or even as Bree’s younger carpenter boyfriend on Desperate Housewives. More recently, though, he has embraced his lighter side once again, as Penny’s potential Skype date on Happy Endings and as one fourth of a kilt-wearing musical bunch in TBS’s canceled sitcom The Wedding Band.

Gabrielle Carteris as Andrea Zuckerman on Beverly Hills, 90210

These days Andrea Zuckerman would probably be the star of the show. After all, nerds are the new cool kids, right? And taking a bus into a whole other city just to get a better education? That’s the definition! We say this with love, because though we may have dreamed of being popular like Kelly or Brenda, we were awkward and with unrequited crushes like Andrea.

Immediately after 90210, Carteris went on to guest-star in a number of crime and medical procedurals, as well as lend her voice to characters in video games. She became something of a reality TV staple for a while, commentating on I Love the '90s on VH1, hosting her own self-titled talk show, and appearing on The Surreal Life in 2002, Dancing with the Stars in 2007, and Celebrity Ghost Stories just last year. Recently she also appeared in NBC’s short-lived alien drama The Event, in an episode of Make It or Break It, and in a new holiday original, The 12 Wishes of Christmas.

Ian Ziering as Steve Sanders on Beverly Hills, 90210

There was just something about Steve Sanders’ sun-bleached hair and squinty smile that should have made him the golden boy of this show. Yet instead he was much more of an underdog, pushed aside by many of the female characters, as well as some fans, for the more serious Brandon and Dylan. Despite his goofy beginnings, though, he was always our Most Likely to Succeed, so we were thrilled when the series ended with him having the loving, stable family of which he seemed to always dream.

Ian Ziering, Today

Though he is still acting (most recently starring in both of SyFy's Sharknado movies), these days Ian Ziering also spends a lot of time touring the country and participating in seminars for NuSkin, a skin-care line for men, women, and children. “I’ve always been on the lookout for the latest in cutting-edge skin-care products, and I believe I have found them! I found products that work on a genetic level that also incorporate a delivery system that help the serums work effectively on the skin,” he explained.

Carol Potter as Cindy Walsh on Beverly Hills, 90210

Cindy Walsh was the Carol Brady of Generation X. She always had a sympathetic ear for her kids—or her kids’ even more troubled friends—and her willingness to play hostess to no shortage of elaborate occasions never failed to make us envious. But she was a bit passive as parent (hence why kids saw her as ideal), and she gradually faded into the background until she and her on-screen husband moved overseas.

Though Potter is best known for her time on 90210, she followed the run with a stint on then-NBC soap opera Sunset Beach, dialing the melodrama up yet another notch. She also had guest appearances on series like JAG, NYPD Blue, and Medium, in addition to appearing on—and winning!—a celebrity edition of game show The Weakest Link in 2002. Partially inspired by her time on 90210, Potter went back to school in the middle of her time on the series to get her therapist’s license. James Eckhouse as Jim Walsh on Beverly Hills, 90210

Though Jim Walsh was Brandon’s father, oddly enough he seemed to have the closest paternal bond with Dylan McKay. Though Dylan spent time dating Jim’s “little girl,” Brenda, Jim spent a great amount of time guiding, advising, and lending a confidant ear to Dylan. It was Jim’s job that took him and his wife, Cindy, off the show in the fifth season, as he was transferred overseas.

James Eckhouse, Today

Eckhouse directed a few episodes of 90210, and after his time there, he took the power seat for an episode of Once and Again before turning his attention back to performing. In addition to his stint as Lloyd Lloyd on Once, he guest-starred on just about every major network drama in the early 2000s, from Ally McBeal to The West Wing. Recently he appeared on The Good Wife, Masters of Sex and CSI: Miami.

Jason Priestley as Brandon Walsh on Beverly Hills, 90210

Brandon Walsh may have been the only moral compass of a teen show who was also considered a heartthrob. It was hard not to fall for his charming smile and hardworking ways, and he set the bar completely out of reach for most “real” high school guys who girls just wanted to be able to go to and unload upon the way so many in West Beverly did with Brandon.

Priestley broke away from the teen pinup role in order to work on more mature projects after his time at 90210 came to an end, utilizing his talents both in front of and behind the camera. Priestley has appeared on Syfy’s Haven as well as Channel 101’s Call Me Fitz, which he also produces and directs. Priestley also directed his 90210 costar Luke Perry in the Hallmark original movie Goodnight for Justice. He made his feature length directorial debut with the indie Cas & Dylan.

Shannen Doherty as Brenda Walsh on Beverly Hills, 90210

Troubled Brenda rebelled in the most typical teenage girl way: with boys. From a crush on a teacher, to a love triangle with Dylan McKay and Kelly Taylor, to almost marrying a former drug dealer, the main focus of her story seemed to be how caught up she’d be in the guys in her life. It wasn’t until season 4 that she started to get serious and really have stories that touched upon other parts of her personality, including animal activism and interest in acting.

Shannen Doherty, Today

Doherty ended up reprising her role of bad girl Brenda, just all grown up, in the CW’s new version of 90210 in 2008, but she has also become quite the reality television maven, starting with a stint as Scare Tactics host, continuing with a spin on the tenth season of Dancing with the Stars, and Shannen Says, an Oxygen Network series documenting her road to her most recent marriage. “Even Clint Eastwood is doing reality TV!” Doherty said about embracing the medium. She'll launch a new reality show in 2015 alongside Charmed co-star Holly Marie Combs where the pair will road trip in the U.S.

As owner of the Peach Pit, Nat was, in a lot of way, the biggest influence, if not a surrogate father, in the lives of the kids of West Beverly. They spent so much time in his diner, and a few of them—namely Brandon and Dylan—became invested in the way the business ran. Hell, Nat even walked Donna down the aisle!

Tata went on to guest-star in Charmed, Shannen Doherty’s own post-90210 project, but later revived his role as Nat on the CW’s decade-later spin-off for a handful of episodes in the series’ first season. For the original fans, he added a sense of comfort and nostalgia to the newly modernized story, but for Tata, he has said he is a man simply stuck in “the Pit.”

Clare was a senior in high school when she met the rest of the 90210 “originals” in their freshman year of college (season 4). Since she was new blood, so to speak, she could date around the group without it seeming icky or incestuous. And date around she did! Her initial crush on Brandon, though heavily pursued at first, was short-lived when David and Steve came into the picture.

Kathleen Robertson, Today

Kathleen Robertson went on to costar in such series as Girls’ Club and The Business (which she also executive produced) after Clare Arnold was behind her, but she’s played a character oddly reminiscent of Clare. In Starz’ Kelsey Grammer drama Boss, Robertson is Kitty O’Neill, a political dynamo who Robertson calls “very meticulous in her professional life but kind of reckless in her private life. She should know better but she [gets involved in a risky relationship] anyway…. There's a bit of self-sabotage with Kitty.” Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Robertson's currently starring in the TNT detective drama Murder in the First.

Luke Perry as Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills, 90210

Dylan McKay was dark; he was brooding; he was deeply flawed. All of these things made him the ultimate '90s bad boy that you wanted desperately to believe had a heart of gold. But Dylan was so caught up in crazy stories—from his father’s supposed death by car bomb, to his involvement in the Peach Pit After Dark being robbed, to his empty relationship with Valerie, to the later revelation that his father was alive—what kept him grounded was the love triangle with Kelly and Brenda. When it came to Dylan, you ultimately wanted one of them to be with him in the end, because you knew that on his own he was too self-destructive.

Perry never stayed away from television long after his stint as Dylan McKay came to a close; he just took on projects for a slightly more mature demographic. His first notable post- (and anti-) Dylan role was in prison drama Oz in 2001, in which he played a reverend who stripped completely nude in one memorable scene. He also starred in and produced a postapocalyptic drama called Jeremiah in 2002 and then went on to do HBO’s also surreal John from Cincinnati. Perry executive produced the Hallmark original movie series Goodnight for Justice, in which he also stars; the first installment was directed by his 90210 rival Jason Priestley. He also made a brief cameo on the NBC sitcom Community.

Janet and Steve seemed meant to be from the minute they met, simply because the series did that very TV thing where each one was annoyed by the other one for different reasons and at different times. Of course, the relationship started off as “just sex” but slowly grew into something more serious—serious enough that they overcame her parents’ disapproval to have a daughter, get married, and run a business together.

Even more than Janet Sosna, Price may be most memorable as the Toys R Us tricycle kid from their infamous '80s commercials. She also guest-starred as yet another potential mother in a 2007 episode of How I Met Your Mother.

The drug-using, boyfriend-abusing Valerie returned to the Walshes’ lives in season 5 of 90210. It was a role that Thiessen was happy to take on post-squeaky-clean, girl-next-door Kelly Kapowski on Saved by the Bell. “Being an actor is being an artist, and being an artist, you want to be creative all of the time, but sometimes being on one show for a long time, it can get kind of stale. Definitely different roles help that…. It keeps your craft sharpened, like a knife,” Thiessen told Snakkle’s Danielle Turchiano in 2011.
