The Cast of Frasier 20 Years Later: Where Are They Now?

Roz Doyle, Frasier’s friend and co-worker at the Seattle radio station KACL, was the resident “maneater” of the show. She made no apologies for her promiscuous nature and was often shown hooking up with various men throughout the show—including Frasier, at one point. But despite the attraction between them, sharp-tongued Roz provided a contrast to Frasier’s pretentious ways, as she was more laidback and down-to-earth.

Much like her Frasier co-stars, Peri has done a lot of voice work over the years. She lent her voice to the Nickelodeon animated series Danny Phantom, and to the animated films, Hellboy: Sword of Storms and Hellboy: Blood and Iron. She has also guest-starred in a variety of shows such as Medium, Desperate Housewives, Hot in Cleveland, Grey’s Anatomy, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Dr. Frasier Crane, radio psychiatrist to the people of Seattle, was a sophisticated geek. Intelligent and refined, the eponymous Frasier was often rather snooty and pompous when it came to his personal tastes. But while such a character would probably annoy most people, Frasier’s penchant for crisp suits, classical music, and expensive designer furniture was so humorously offset by the other characters—especially his ex-cop father, Martin, that it made for some pretty great comedy.

After Frasier, Kelsey Grammer’s TV career hit a bit of a rough patch. His next sitcoms, Back To You and Hank, failed to live up to the success of Frasier—in fact, both were cancelled after just one season. In 2011, however, Kelsey hit it big once more with his Starz series Boss, for which he won a Golden Globe for Best Actor. Kelsey also starred in a few successful films, such as the 2004 remake of A Christmas Carol, and the box office hit X-Men: The Last Stand. In 2011, the actor became the focus of media scrutiny due to his messy divorce from ex-wife Camille Grammer.

Just like his older brother, Niles was a psychiatrist who liked to wear suits all day, talked like a refined scholar, and had a very sophisticated (to the point of being pretentious) taste in food, music and films. He’s also stiff, snarky, and incredibly fussy. Still, his vulnerability and awkward ways—usually displayed when Daphne was around—made him one of the most likeable characters on the show.

David Hyde Pierce has not had much acting work since Frasier, aside from some voice–over gigs and a stint on Sesame Street as Commander Chiphead. However, he has been relatively active in the theater world, appearing in various Broadway and off-Broaddway plays such as A Wonderful Life, Spamalot, Curtains, La Bête, and most recently, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. In 2007, Pierce ended years of speculation over his sexuality by coming out as a gay man. A year later, he married his long time partner, writer and producer Brian Hargrove.

When Martin is in a room with his two sons, it’s pretty hard to imagine how they turned out to be such pompous, high-culture snobs. While Frasier and Niles enjoyed expensive cafés and other snobbish pursuits, their father took pleasure in beer, sports, poker games, and other conventionally masculine activities. His blue-collar lifestyle and no-nonsense attitude often caused disputes between him and his sons, but they eventually became closer throughout the series.

Mahoney’s long stint as Frasier Crane’s father was followed by a series of guest appearances in ER, In Treatment, Burn Notice, $h*! My Dad Says, and Hot in Cleveland. He’s also done voice work—most notably for The Simpsons as the father of Sideshow Bob (voiced by his former TV son Kelsey Grammer)—and has appeared in a numer of plays. He was recently in the Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s production of The Birthday Party, which ran from January to April 2013.

“I must confess… I’m a bit psychic.” Not something you’d tell a potential employer for a housekeeper-slash-physical therapist position, but Daphne Moon is nothing if not original. Beautiful and slightly eccentric, Daphne immediately caught the eye of Frasier’s brother, Niles, who kept his attraction a secret from her for years. The excruciatingly slow progress of their relationship—from unrequited crush to matrimony—was a major plotline of the show, and theirs was a favorite pairing among Frasier fans.

The British actress followed Frasier with a series of voice roles in animated TV shows, such as The Penguins of Madagascar and Phineas and Ferb. She also lent her voice to the 2006 Garfield sequel, Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties. Since 2010, Jane has enjoyed a steady gig as main cast member Joy Scroggs in the TV Land sitcom Hot in Cleveland.
