The Men, Women And That Sexy Car of Knight Rider—Where Are They Now?

You may remember KITT, Michael Knight’s trustworthy and nearly indestructible sidekick car from the show Knight Rider. The 007-esque A.I. is so advanced in the vehicle that KITT had a personality and sometimes opinion of its own. Actor William Daniels was the voice of the car, you can listen to him in this clip.

Outside of Knight Rider, Daniels is well known for his other authoritative (and bossy?) figures such as Dustin Hoffman’s father in the cult movie The Graduate, as Dr. Mark Craig in St. Elsewhere, and Principle George Feeny in Boy Meets World. More recently, you can catch him playing yet another Craig doctor, Dr. Craig Thomas in Gray’s Anatomy.

Michael Long, an ex-cop who was a field operative for the Foundation for Law and Government, was shot in the line of duty and presumed dead. Long took the opportunity to change his identity and started working for Knight Industries, a privately funded justice organization. Long-story-short, Long becomes Michael Knight, an everyday man-turned-hero with some high-tech gadgets and a futuristic car.

For Hasselhoff, the Knight Rider series was only the beginning of his superstar career. Hasselhoff went on to produce and star in Baywatch, which made him a sex symbol and pop culture icon. He struck cable TV gold again with the soap drama, The Young and the Restless from 1975 to 2010. In 2010, he was a contestant on Dancing With The Stars and while he didn’t win, he’s kept himself and his feet busy hitting red carpets and continuing his career in TV and film.

The original hot mechanic for KITT, Bonnie Barstow was an engineering and design whiz. She had a personal hand in upgrading the vehicle’s onboard systems and was often required to repair damages. In 1983, Barstow left for graduate school and was replaced by the capable April Curtis.

McPherson’s film and TV career didn’t last much longer after Knight Rider, because she decided to instead invest her time and money in preserving wildlife and forests. She starred in a few films and scored guest appearances on successful series like Murder, She Wrote and Star Trek: Next Generation but gave up acting in 2009. She’s married to James Garrett and works on environment protection, now.

Reginald Cornelius II, or RC3, was a good guy turned bad guy, but all for the sake of good… do you follow? RC3 nicknamed himself The Street Avenger and decided to take crime prevention into his own hands, setting out under his alias to clean up the streets. He and Michael hooked up and he joined KITT, assisting in the crack down on crime.

Like Hasselhoff, Parros landed a recurring role in the soap opera, The Young and the Restless in 1986. Doing well in the soap world, he joined the cast of As The World Turns for nearly a decade as Dr. Benjamin "Ben" Robert Harris until 2005 and most recently made a guest appearance on the TV show Castle. He lives in Bloomfield, New Jersey with his wife and two children and works on his production company, Ten Talents Productions.

Holden played the beautiful April Curtis, Bonnie Bartow’s replacement as head of the Knight Industries design team (a.k.a. sexy on-call mechanic). Curtis also acted as personal assistant to Devon Miles.

While Holden’s role as April Curtis on Knight Rider was her big break into film and TV acting, Holden also made a career for herself in the world of country music. Holden can be seen in numerous guest spots for TV shows, but she focused more on developing her singing career after Knight Rider. She recently released a duet called “Dreams Come True” and still performs live and her a list of upcoming appearances can be found on her personal website here.

Friends with Wilton Knight, the billionaire founder of the Foundation for Law and Government (FLAG) and Knight Industries, Miles was on the board of FLAG and acted as the “M” to Knight’s “Bond.” Miles appeared in nearly every episode to deliver Knight’s mission before sending him on his merry way.

Edward Mulhare is probably best known for his Broadway role in My Fair Lady as Professor Higgins, which he landed after Rex Harrison left the show. After a long and successful run with the hit musical, he made a successful move to TV, most notably his role in Knight Rider. Sadly, Mulhare struggled with lung cancer toward the end of his life and his final TV role was actually with former Knight Rider co-star David Hasselhoff in Baywatch Nights before he passed that same year in 1997.

The famous Knight Industries Two Thousand (K.I.T.T.) was designed by the late Wilton Knight, a brilliant but eccentric billionaire. KITT was an artificially intelligent electronic computer module installed in a highly advanced, robotic automobile and the use car to create KITT for TV was a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am.

According to online reports: a total of 23 cars were made for use in filming the series. All except one of these cars survived until the show was cancelled; all except 5 of the remaining 22 cars were destroyed at the end of filming. In 2007, in a report in "USA Today," one of the original KITT cars showed up for sale on eBay, and another KITT had already sold prior that year for $100,000. Universal reportedly kept 2 cars (and had a further replica made later) for use in their Entertainment Center display.
