Before Oprah was a talk-show titan and producer, she grew up in poverty. Born in rural Kosciusko, Mississippi, to a single mother in 1954, Winfrey spent a childhood moving between her mother, grandmother, and finally father in Tennessee. However, her grandmother taught her to read at age 3, instilling a life-long love of books. Here we see the daytime diva at Nashville East High School.
