Fight With The Hotwives of Orlando on Hulu!
By Kerensa CadenasIf you are a true, ride or die Real Housewives fan—you’ll know that telling those ladies to calm down is always the wrong way to go. And that’ exactly what The Hotwives of Orlando creators Dannah Feinglass Phirman and Danielle Schneider were going for with their new Hulu homage to the Real Housewives franchise.
The Hotwives of Orlando portrays a group of women who more than echo your favorite Real Housewives—Casey Wilson leads the group as Tawny St. John—a flighty blonde whose husband is “dying” while she get consoled by her personal trainer (played by former New Kids on the Block member Joey McIntyre). She’s surrounded by a gang of equally repellant women who plan Pimps and Hos parties, get vaginal lifts and throw fits all over Orlando—played by a hilarious group of ladies including Angela Kinsey, Kristen Schaal, Tymberlee Hill, Andrea Savage and creator Danielle Schneider.
The show hits Hulu today and viewers can expect all the one shouldered dresses, wine throwing and DRAMA that you love from the Real Housewives franchise. While they expertly skewer reality TV tropes and Bravo, Phirman and Schneider are also fans of the show. While discussing the actual housewives, Schneider launched into personal anecdotes about seeing Kim Richards at the drybar and got her autograph for Wilson (another superfan of the show) and seeing Lisa Vanderpump sitting outside Sur. They made it mandatory viewing for Kinsey and Savage who hadn’t yet seen the show.
When asked which housewife they’d want to guest star on the show, the ladies had instant opinions. Nene Leakes, was the first choice for all the women—“I feel like she’d just sit me down and tell me what I’m doing wrong and I’d listen” said Phirman. Vicki Gunvalson was also mentioned as was her recent “face job” work. Kyle Richards came up as a dream guest and her hair became a hot topic when Schaal mentioned that “I like her hair very much.”
The seven episode season was shot in a relatively short period of time—but under Phirman and Schnieder’s watch the Hotwives sets and costumes perfectly echo the visual style of every Housewives franchise from the gaudy palatial suburban mansions to their bronzer and wig budget. They had meetings with the costume designer to make sure each character had their specific style down. As Schneider notes, “the wig budget is PRETTY amazing.” Schaal mentioned that she needed all the hair because no one on the Housewives has short hair. She’s not wrong.
Take a calm down moment for yourself and check out The Hotwives of Orlando on Hulu. We’re really liking our wine throwing with a side of satire.
