First Kids aren't always handled with kid gloves. Remember the controversy over Amy Carter reading during a state dinner? That 1977 Art Buchwald column is pro-Amy, but mentions that most folks were less than thrilled by her behavior. Sisters Barbara and Jenna Bush were much older than Amy Carter when their father George W. Bush became President of the United States. Things started out a little rocky for the Bush twins—Jenna “begged her father not to run for president in 2000,” according to Newsweek—but by 2004 they were right there in the thick of the campaign, delivering a speech at the Republican National Convention gently chiding their parents for being a bit out of touch with popular culture.
