Tina Turner in 2009
We don’t need another hero—just the amazing stamina, talent, and legs of Ms. Tina Turner. Future rock legend Anna Mae Bullock was born on November 26, 1939, in Nutbush, Tennessee. She joined Ike Turner in the 1950s onstage and has never left it. After giving us iconic hits such as “River Deep, Mountain High,” Turner left abusive Ike and set off on her own. She rocketed back to the top of the charts in the 1980s and has remained a success ever since. Here is Turner, who is now 75 years old, performing in the Netherlands in 2009.
