Lil Wayne (he eliminated the “D” in front of his name early on because he shares it with his father, who abandoned him as a young child) was already a musician and actor as a kid growing up in New Orleans (check out this video that supposedly shows him in a red nose performing The Wiz in seventh grade). Though a gifted student, Wayne dropped out of high school to become a rapper; he put out his first solo album at age 17.
