Before They Were Stars
HOT GALLERY: NFL Players Before They Were Stars
The great thing about the NFL is that it changes every week. The frustrating thing about the NFL? It changes every week. One injury can ruin a player's career; the same injury creates an opportunity for someone else to step up. This year things seem crazier than usual, perhaps because of the shortened pre-season caused by a labor dispute. Now that the NFL season is almost over, let's play a little "who am I?" with some of the biggest names in the game before the biggest game of the year—Super Bowl XLVI on February 5, 2012! Wes Welker High School Yearbook Photo—Wide Receiver, New England Patriots
Wes Welker may be a superstar now, but he began as an undrafted rookie receiver who was cut by the San Diego Chargers after one game. After two years with the Miami Dolphins, the New England Patriots traded for him in 2007. Welker made an immediate impact, catching 112 passes for 1,175 yards, helping his team to an an undefeated regular season (although they did lose the Super Bowl to the New York Giants). Welker has continued to get the job done in New England; as of week 11, he has already reached 1,000 yards receiving and is averaging 14 yards per catch. (Note to non-football fans: that’s really, really good.)
