HOT GALLERY: A Star is Reborn! Check Out How These Stars’ Careers Went from “What Happened to Them?” to “I Love Them!”
We all know the familiar story of the has-been—too many canceled shows, a sex scandal gone awry, a drug addiction they couldn’t kick, or the rut of being typecast. See how this humble bunch triumphed over career adversity and got a second chance at stardom. By Kacey ArnoldIf you were around in the ’70s, you may think of J.T. strutting his stuff on the dance floor in Saturday Night Fever, serenading Sandy as Danny Zuko in Grease, goofing around as the lovable Vinnie Barbarino in Welcome Back, Kotter, or any number of his iconic roles of the ’70s and early ’80s, but despite working consistently in the ’80s and early ’90s, his star was comparatively dim until Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 Pulp Fiction brought him back and earned him both Golden Globe and Oscar noms (maybe it helped that he got to dance again.) The original J.T. continued his portrayal of bad guys we couldn’t help but love in hits like Get Shorty (which won him a Golden Globe), Face/Off, and the upcoming Savages, due out this summer, as well as bringing his natural charm to lighter fare like Hairspray and Bolt. (Yes, I am conspicuously glossing over the more “spiritual” projects. He’s suffered enough.) If you’re feeling nostalgic for the J.T. of yore, check out Glee’s recent homage, “Saturday Night Glee-ver,” and relive Travolta’s heyday, flashing dance floor and all!
