10 Years After the First Spider-Man Movie, It’s Time for a Reboot
Summer 2012 is shaping up to be fun for superhero fans. In May, Marvel's The Avengers crushed all competition. On July 3, The Amazing Spider-Man swings into theaters with a new cast. Spider-Man's first appearance was in Amazing Fantasy #15, published in August 1962—almost exactly 50 years ago. We don't need to say "spoiler alert" to tell you that the wall-crawler went on to fame and fortune in multiple mediums, including the first Spider-Man movie in 2002. Will this latest group of actors be as amazing as before? Read on, true believer. By Brett Singer

Martin Sheen as Ben Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
As we said with Sally Field and Aunt May, The Amazing Spider-Man is a reboot and will reportedly tell a slightly different story than in Sam Raimi’s trilogy. We don’t know if Uncle Ben will even be killed off right away the way he usually is. Director Marc Webb told MTV.com that “there is no wrestling match in this movie,” although SuperHeroHype.com reports that a wrestling poster is making the rounds virally, so who knows. No matter what winds up on-screen, Martin Sheen is always reliable (insert “Charlie Sheen isn’t reliable” joke here), whether he’s playing the President of the United States or the President’s chief of staff.
