Sonic Youth—NOW
NYC band Sonic Youth was part of the first wave of American noise rock groups. The band expressed their own brand of the hardcore punk ethos that was popular and evolving in the American underground. Sonic Youth’s 2003 and 2007 Coachella performances weren’t really reunions, but more like celebrated returns for their uncompromising experimentalism and growing cult status. Sadly, the 27-year marriage between founding members Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore ended in 2011, breaking up Sonic Youth until further notice.
