It’s almost hard to remember back in the day when Johnny Depp made movies looking like… well, Johnny Depp. To say he’s gotten a little caught up in using makeup and costuming to create a character these days is quite the understatement. Matter of fact, Depp’s created one of the most eclectic rosters of over-the-top film characters of any actor working today, including his latest turn as Barnabas Collins, the ’70s-era goth vampire, in Tim Burton’s big-screen adaptation of Dark Shadows. Summer 2012 is shaping up to be fun for superhero fans. In May, Marvel’s The Avengers crushed all competition. On July 3, The Amazing Spider-Man swings into theaters with a new cast. Spider-Man’s first appearance was in Amazing Fantasy #15, published in August 1962—almost exactly 50 years ago. We don’t need to say “spoiler alert” to tell you that the wall-crawler went on to fame and fortune in multiple mediums, including the first Spider-Man movie in 2002.
