In the mid-1990s, America’s favorite leading lady found herself in a series of underperforming films, culminating in a Razzie nomination for her role in Mary Reilly (1996), in which she starred as the lover of Dr. Jekyll (and yes, Mr. Hyde). Luckily, career revival came quickly for Roberts in the form of feel-good rom-com My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997), in which she starred alongside Dermot Mulroney and Cameron Diaz. Roberts’s star status was thus restored, and America could fall in love again. Three years later, Roberts would seal that star status with an Oscar win for her title role in Erin Brockovich (2000).
