Happy Birthday, Joan Cusack! You Make Every Movie Better by Being in It
If there is anyone out there that doesn't appreciate Joan Cusack... honestly, we can't think of anything to tell such a person, other than, "Huh?" The lovely and preposterously talented Ms. Cusack has been consistently excellent since her first film appearance way back in 1980. She also seems like someone who leads a normal life off-camera; this clip of Joan promoting Mars Needs Moms is a great example. On the occasion of her 50th birthday, here is a Snakkle look at a few of our favorite Joan roles, both large and small. By Brett Singer
Joan Cusack in Broadcast News (1987)
Long before Aaron Sorkin took us inside The Newsroom, James L. Brooks brought audiences behind the scenes in Broadcast News (1987). Joan shows off her physical comedy chops in this scene, “Pushing,” in which Cusack’s Blair Litton dodges everything from file cabinets to toddlers, only to be temporarily thwarted by a water fountain. “Why do you do this to me?” she asks Jane (Holly Hunter). “Is it because I won an award?” (Note: You may need a Hulu.com account to watch the clip. We’d apologize but it’s not our fault.)
