It’s tough not to hear the gavels pound in the background when Fred Thompson appears. As a smiley senior at Lawrence County High School in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, however, the gritty topics of his longtime TV home, Law & Order, were a distant future, in which cases would be opened and closed within an hour and Thompson’s future alter ego, D.A. Arthur Branch, would solve them on no fewer than three spin-off series.
