Back in the mid-’80s, two disaffected kids from Aberdeen, Washington, started making music together. With the eventual addition of Dave Grohl on drums, they would go on to form Nirvana—and soon a whole new genre would be born. Novoselic and Cobain were close friends, and he was devastated by Cobain’s suicide in 1994. He has since dabbled in various musical projects, including recording with Grohl’s band Foo Fighters.
